Fernbank’s Reptile Day 2012 Gets Guests Up-close and Personal with Live Reptiles and Amphibians

Guests at Fernbank Museum of Natural History will have the opportunity to interact with reptiles and amphibians of all shapes and sizes at the Museum’s annual event, Reptile Day, on Saturday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Reptile Day is an all-ages event that will include a variety of fun and educational, reptile-inspired, activities. A live animal display will be featured in the Great Hall of the Museum, where numerous reptiles and amphibians, including pythons, tortoises and iguanas will take center stage. Guests will get a chance to view the animals up-close, and some reptiles will be available to touch.  Special guests from the Georgia Herpetological Society, Zoo Atlanta, My Reptile Guys and Fernbank Museum’s Education staff will be available to help answer questions and educate attendees about the importance of these unique animals.

Visitors can also show their reptilian style while participating in a special Alligator Hat Craft that will be offered in the Great Hall. Each person will have the chance to make an alligator hat to wear home, as well as meet a live baby alligator for inspiration.

A variety of Remarkable Reptiles presentations are scheduled throughout the event, offering more opportunities to see live reptiles. The presentations take place at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. in the Fernbank Museum Auditorium, with limited seating available. At Remarkable Reptiles, Fernbank educators will feature some of the ‘stars’ from Fernbank Museum’s live animal collection and answer questions.  Reptile Day 2012 is one of the Family Days included as part of Fernbank’s 97 Days of Play summer series.  97 Days of Play features a variety of unique activities, events and fun-filled ways to keep families entertained and inspired during the summer months.

Reptile Day is included with Museum admission. Admission to Fernbank is $17.50 for adults, $16.50 for students and seniors with ID, $15.50 for children ages 3 to 12, FREE for children 2 and under and FREE for Museum members.
